Day 135 – Macro success!

I was determined to take the first step of mastering macro photography so I decided to return to Highline Park to some particular bush/plant that attracted a ton of bumblebees. I went around noon so the sun was at its brightest (free flash for macro!). After reading some more about macro photography, it seemed the only way to get a focused picture was to take multiple shots and use a process called focus stacking. The above picture is a focus stacked picture of 2 shots using 68mm of extension tubes and a Nikon 105mm micro lens @ 1/250, f/11, ISO640. The biggest challenge was waiting for a bumblebee that stayed still! Those little buggers won’t stay in the same spot for more than 5 seconds.
